Checking a card

Choosing what to check

Connected cards are listed under Cards by their own name, not the drive letter they happened to get. Click Check this to check one.

  • Show other drives also lists fixed disks. Refresh looks for newly connected cards.
  • Scan another folder… checks any folder, such as a mounted disk image, a staging folder or a drive that wasn't detected. The folder is saved under Cards so you can check it again with one click. If its drive is disconnected, it shows as Not connected right now.

Sidecar files (.THM, .XMP, .LRV) and system folders (System Volume Information, .Trashes) never stop a card from being safe.

Reading the report

  • Verdict. Safe or not safe, with file counts, sizes and the rule that was used.
  • Gaps. How many files are missing for each reason, so "62 files missing from offsite" is one line, not 62.
  • Folders. The card's folder tree, colored by status. Folders with problems are expanded and clean ones are collapsed. Click a folder to list its files.
  • Files. For each file, which libraries have it and what it still needs. Hover over a library badge to see how confident the match is and why.

Previews

The file list has two layouts, which you can switch in the panel header. The choice is remembered. Rows shows every detail in a table. Tiles shows a grid of larger previews.

Previews use the small JPEG your camera saves inside the file for its own screen, so raw files get one too. They are about 160px, the size the camera saved. Videos use the still image the camera saved next to them, such as Sony's THMBNL/C0001T01.JPG or a .THM file. Files without one show their file type instead.

Scan history

Past checks are listed under Recent scans, by card name. Each one has a Delete button, and Clear history removes them all. This only deletes the reports. Checking the card again gives the same result.
